At the moment, I’m building tools, wading through the history of computing cultures, teaching this spring term, and examining how metaphors shape the way AI is understood.

I’m building a tool for pen plotters that pulls together data, SVGs, scripting, and plotter control into a single workflow. Optimistically, so.

Inquiring

What are the role and implications of metaphors used to describe Artificial Intelligence in shaping how it is understood?

I’m also collaborating with We and AI on examining how AI is discussed through metaphors. Our near-term goal is to build a shared metaphor repository / observatory to support more intellectually honest and useful ways of talking about AI.

Exploring

I’m deep in the weeds with philosophies of computing cultures, exploring how they might offer ways to reclaim agency and control in our computing futures.
