A running log of what I'm currently up to
January 2026
At the moment, I'm spending most of my time and energy looking into how large, messy systems work and examining how metaphors shape the way AI is understood.
Working on:
UX consulting on a complex, data-heavy operations platform for Hajj. The work involves helping shape a single system that different Saudi ministries can use to coordinate and manage operations effectively.
I’m also building civic data tools with the team at Zen Citizen, an initiative aimed at making government procedures easier to understand and navigate. It’s been good to work on something that keeps me close to questions of access and dealing with the messy realities of bureaucratic systems.
Alongside this, I’m collaborating with We and AI on a project examining on how AI is discussed through metaphors. We are prepping for a workshop that brings together researchers, educators, linguists, and activists to analyse to analyse metaphor frameworks and taxonomies. Our near-term goal is to build a shared metaphor repository and observatory to support more intellectually honest and useful ways of talking about AI.
Inquiring:
What are the role and implications of metaphors used to describe Artificial Intelligence in shaping how it is understood?
Teaching:
On the fun side, I’m also putting together some course material for a creative coding workshop for the MA Data Visualisation programme at the University of the Arts London.
